About the Author

Annita Clark Weaver’s childhood in a bi-cultural family instilled in her a desire to experience for herself the country of her father’s and grandmother’s birth. As a young woman, she lived and worked in Brazil for a year and a half, becoming fluent in Portuguese, and learning first hand about Brazilian culture. She has made eight trips to Brazil, twice making her home there, and traveling in 18 of Brazil’s 26 states. In her grandmother’s town, Caldas, Minas Gerais, she interviewed three old women, and conducted research in civic records.
